Check out the service costs for an LS400. Typical 60K service (miles) is about $900 or so, and 90K services run about a grand as well.

Also, check out the conversation. Lexus makes superb cars, but like any other flagship car sporting cutting edge technology, they are not inexpensive to maintain. People buy them in the used market expecting Corolla running costs. Those people should stick to owning Corollas.
LOL, the 2uz1 is also a t belt engine with a 90k replacement interval and a t belt driven water pump. (the 1uz1 is the same) Think service costs are high? Try buying brake parts for one, especially rotors. Doing front rotors and pads on a LX runs in the $650-750 zone.

dealers should provide a multipage check sheet when you pick up the car that shows all the maintenance work done.
?

I did 15000 mile service at an independent.

They only gave me one page invoice.
One line said "15000 mile service". There were several more lines describing parts.

Hey Lexus guys, don't hijack my thread!!

How much extra should I expect to pay for the trans service? I am assuming $200 or so? So basically I am paying $700 for an oil change and some filters?!?!

Wow! U.S. $449.95 for a flexible service B on a 6cyl E320.
Basically an oil and filter, dust filter and wiper insert change plus inspection. Seems a little excessive.

spinedoc - why don't you bring all the parts you want incl oil, filters, trans fluid etc to your indy and have 'em do the labor for you, seeing as it's still winter here in the northeast

My 60K was $480 plus parts -- from MB -- I think that included my 10% off for being a MBCA member.

Trans/brake/coolant/oil/ all filtrers/plugs/rotate/ - Plus check and lube all the stuff. They actually cleaned the ant. -- so I think they did go over the car. My dealer always totally cleans the car also. Also balanced the front tires - NC

Now my Nissan dealer is another story -- they were going to totally rip me off. You must ask what they are going to do -- If they do not do what the book says should be done -- walk away.

I am sure that I could have found a better price -- but for me -- I am past the point that I get anything out of changing fluids -- And my local MB dealer is actually very good!

Not to start a war -- But -- No Mercedes I have ever owned or heard about was as trouble free like the Lexus in my driveway! I can not say enough about the build quality of that car. My second one! I personally do not drive it often -- but that is another story!

PS -- trans change was around $220.00

My independent is charging me $600-$800 for the 60,000 mile, but that's with the trans change included. The dealer wants $650, plus $200 with the trans change. I like my indie, but he had no list of items performed for the service. The dealer gave me a nice printed sheet with items they perform, which I liked.

So I will spend the big bucks, better safe than sorry.

I agree with ya, I would definitely consider doing it. But... it is winter here and I am driving it on nice days, don't want to put more miles on it past that 60,000. Also I work quite long hours and really don't have the time to put into it. I used to do all the work on my cars, including my old 300E, but I just don;t have the time to get my hands dirty anymore.

I may save a hundred bucks or so on my indie, but I think the dealer is the best route to go. At least if something happens to the trans or somethng else I have the service documented. Plus I like to see what I am paying for, and that nifty 3 cent phamplet that listed all the services they are doing really won me over.

as you say, it's winter out. lol, here on the north shore as well!

makes things a bit more difficult to do outside with no garage.
i'm limited to the essentials basically these days, check the oil and fill the windshield washer

honestly you have a great model benz there with little mileage-
why not baby it!
