W124 details

as i need to replace the transmission mount on the 300E, does any body know what the difference is bewteen the 722.3 and the 722.4 box so i can order the parts?

the other thing i was after is - how many diff mounts are there?

my merc dealer service centre says all four require replacing whereas the research i have done indicates that there are only two there?

many thanks
kmc

Kaiser,

I can look for answers in my EPC but I need to know the year of your car or the 6 first digits of the serial number ( W 124 XXX ).
There are 4 mounts when you take the 2 engine mounts into account.
Are the mounts used or are the transmission mounts eaten up by oil ? This happens regularly when there is/was an oil leak on the engine or the tranny.
In that case the flex coupling would be damaged too! Check it out.
Do a search about the engine mounts on this or the Diesel forum.
This will allow you to diagnose yourself if they have to be replaced or not.

Danny, its a Nov. 1987 model.

yes you're right - the previous owner blew the high pressure power steering line which leaked all down the underside of the car and was not rectified. i bought the thing and now have to replace the trasnmission mount, diff. mounts, and the p/steering line. all the rubbers have died.

so there are four mounting rubbers on the diff? these are the 'rear subframe mounts' - yes? i thought there was only two?

any idea as to part no's?

what is the best way to get part no's generally?

thanks for your help.

Use Fastlane for your part search (and purchase)
At the top of this page, click on FASTLANE, then on ONLINE CATAGOG.
