The new addition to the fleet

Ladies and Gentlemen I present the newest member of the Morrison Fleet.
A 1983 240D with 150,000mi. Just purchased this morning at 10am.
For those who have not read the purchase info. I found the car in the paper and something told me I needed to look at it. Everything looks great for its age. I found the family that bought it on a European Delivery here at ******** in the DFW area. The lady who I talked to drove it for 12 years. Then passed it down to their son who drove it until he gave it to his brother who sold it last fall. I talked to the mechanic who worked on it since out of warrentee. It needs a new transmission and I have already talked to or "interviewed" ( another term for Bull$hited with) and looked at the shop the current owner used to learn that what I was telling him about the tranny was true. I'm pleased with what the transmission shop owner and I discussed. He wants $1200 for a rebuilt with toruque converter INSTALLED. We will arrange for that soon.
The car does need some TLC but is a great platform to start from. The body and interiors are in great shape except for 2 small items that will be repaired by me.
So for $2250. My daughter has her new car. I will go through the car from front to back and get it up to speed for my daughter. I don't expect any big surprises.
The man who purchased it, and both of his sons are Texas A & M Aggies, so is my Daughter. And as the second son son said when I told him. " The car just want to go home to College Station and Texas A & M,
I'm sure I'll have more post about this car in the future.

Dave

Hey, same color as mine, but looks like much better condition!

I'm really ticked that you posted this here, and not in Diesel Discussion.

The perfect color for tooling around College Station. Hopefully it has a white pinstripe to complete the Maroon and White.

Gig "em Aggies.

Wow, they actually have Internet service in Port Huron.

Mike chimed in to make the same comment that I was headed for, the perfect color for an Aggie.

Hope she enjoys it,

PS: I hope the a/c is in good shape. LB

Not to hijack the thread...

Yes Larry, apparently the internet arrived in Port Huron about the time I did . Although I am only playing at about 28.8 on a dial up working off my laptop thru the hotel phone lines. Seems hi-speed inet connections do not exist here (at least not until sometime after I checkout of the hotel). Been house hunting steady and might have one in my sights, should know more soon.

Now back to our previously scheduled thread.

I guess I should let the non Texans in on the private joke here in this thread.

The color of Daves daughters "new" car is the school color of the Texas A&M Aggies. Mike was raised a Texan and an Aggie, so that's what all the code words are about.

I expect that 240D to learn the roads between the DFW area and College Station.

Have a great day,

Good looking car for a good price. I kinda like the 240 with the automatic. My neice is still driving the one I rebuilt the engine in and you could not get her to drive anything else now.

Thanks to all.
Larry the AC? Well see. It does have pressure ( not full) but the compressor clutch does not engage. It was NOT converted so we are looking at just a repair.
Mike.We will have to add the white pinstripe.
Yes this is a 4th generation ( one family removed) Aggies car. But ALL Aggies are just one big family.

The body and paint on that car look great for 21 years old!

It could just simply be low on refrigerant. That would prevent the clutch from kicking in.

Enjoy,
