500SEL problem

Hi All

I have a 1987 500SEL. I'm having problems starting it on a morning or when I haven't used it for several hours.

It turns over but does not start for ages (approx one minute). I have to keep turning her over for ages before she just fires up. Then I have to hope the engine doesn't stop again and I have to keep my foot on the gas for about ten seconds and eventually she fires properly and the revs go up. At the same time this started, the idle speed has shot up to 1500/2000 revs, so when I go between reverse or drive or park, the revs go up and when she gets into gear it slams into gear making the back wheels turn abit even when I have the brakes on. Which i imagine is not good for the gear box.

I've taken her into my local garage for a service and to get this sorted but they don't know whats going on. If anyone could give me a few pointers, that would be very much appreciatede.

Cheers for your time

Taddub
