inspection sticker
 

here's a weird one for those of you who have replaced a windshield (rock has left me with a large crack) are the folks who replace this for me going to be able to get my inspection sticker off or do I have to go out and get a new inspection? 19yr old car, it's good to know if I need another inspection.

They should be able to scrape the current sticker off and if you're lucky put it back on the new windshield. If it doesn't hold you have the current sticker to show when ask for a new one. Getting a new inpsection because of a windshielsd replacement would be like re-registering your car because you changed your oil. What state do you live in?

do seem to have a technique for switching the old sticker over to the new windshield withough making it look too messy (which tends to attract police looking for stolen stickers). Some of them, I think, use WD-40 as a release agent for the adhesive.

In CT, they used to give you a form that stated you had a replacement windshield installed - you took that and the pieces of the old sticker to the inspection station and they gave you a new sticker. They've since done away with stickers here, you just keep a copy of the emissions test with your registration. The shop that does the glass for you will know exactly how your state handles it.

The old sticker comes off in tatters, but WD-40 instantly cleans off any glue reside.

I'm probably going to catch a lot of flak for this.....Georgia doesn't have any inspection except for smog equipment in the Metro Atlanta area, not sure about Macon or Savannah though. IMHO inspections should be brought back because some of the "cars" I see out on the road every day look like they had been bought from the local parts recycler. Many that I've seen are missing headlight assemblies and more don't have functioning brake lights (automatically your fault if you hit one in the rear). Be "lucky" that you have inspections to make owners keep their cars in working condition.

I've always been able to remove the sticker with a razor blade, heat gun and patience. They usually don't adhere as well after they've been removed, but a little clear tape (applied neatly of course) does the trick.
