126 console trim removal/switch replacement

I have tried the search files but can't seem to find what I need. I would like to replace a power window switch in the center console of an '86 560SEL How do you remove the wood trim piece? And how about the switch removal/replacement? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks....

If you pry really gently from the rear, the wood will come right up. The switches might stay clipped to the wood or they might stay in their sockets.

hang on you may want to do it this way.

1 remove the coin tray just above the console below the ashtray.
(note: my tray may have already been loose if your coin tray won't come up then start with #2 the ashtray removal

2 remove the inner ash tray unplug the lighter.

3 you will see 2 screws holding the frame work in remove those and the frame work and you'll find you can remove the tray then lightly push forward a might on the console and it will then lift off.

4 now you can remove any switch you want. and if memory serves you can push them out from the top by holding the small plastic spring clip down while pushing

5 as the book says install is in the reverse order

good luck

Definately do what Craig said. Don't try to pull up in the rear - there are delicate clips back there that will break if you just pull up. The coin tray has to be removed so you can slide the wood forward without breaking the clips.

Thanks for the quick reply. I got the wood trim lifted up and switched my drivers side front window wire to the left rear switch and the drivers window worked fine so I know the drivers switch is the problem. One more question....does the the switch just push out of the trim or is there something holding it to the wood.? I pushed gently on the switch but it doesn't want to come loose.

Done deal!! Bad switch out of console, changed wires so that the rear left window switch will operate the drivers window until the new switch arrives from FastLane. Thanks for all the help.
