I just picked acquired a 500E, and was wondering if there are any common problems I should look out for. Also can anyon give me any info on this keyless entry sytem that someone has made for my generation of E-class. Like how much is it, what kind of transmitters are used(RF or infared), what do they look like, etc...

Have your monobelt tensioner checked. Also, see my recent post in the Hot Rods forum regarding a hydraulic hose.

I suggest running WaterWetter, BTW :D

As to a keyless entry/remote start system, I've had a Clifford unit in my 300TE W124 for a year now, no probs. It was about $225 installed, including the remote start (and MBZ requires an additional central lock/alarm interface).

I'll likely do the same thing, w/o remote start, to my 500. Cost will be $175 or so.

Enjoy your new car!

There are some other common problems you should be aware of. The power steering pump leaks at 90K miles or so and will have to be replaced. Also, the timing chain should be replaced around 120K if not earlier. I'm curious if anyone has had transmission problem in general.
