Have been having hesitation problems with my 77 - 450SL. Thought it was water in gas but seems to be getting worse. Local MB shop told me today that car needs a new fuel distributor at a cost of $2,000 for a rebuilt unit. Seems high. Any recommendations or do I need to just bight the bullet and get it replaced???

At the very least, I'd get a second opinion. I just had mine in the shop last week for the same problem and had some fuel components fixed for around $700. Runs great now.

I would check around. That price is way too high. The MB list price is in the area of $700 (I'm at home and can't check) but 2 grand is way too much.
