I have a problem. REcently i added a set of 17x8.5 et35 rims to my 89 300e. THere are no problems with rubbing, except on hard cornering ramps at high speed. However, when i reverse the car, there is this grinding noise from the front right wheel section. Im not sure if it is the wheel rubbing, becuase there are no problems with the front left rim. The noise sounds like a rubbing, cranking noise from within but is a grinding squeal from the outside. And the noise only occurs when i reverse AND turn the wheel. Straight line reversing is perfectly fine. What is the problem? And when i look at the wheel from the front underneath, the wheel clears the strut tower. PLease help. THanks.

My bet would be the outside edge of the tire hitting the inner edge of the wheel sheet metal. I had a similar sound which was due to that reason. Check the edges of the inside of the fenders for clearance.
