in 1994 when i had put my first 40,000 on my 1985 500sel (88,000) my muffler needed replace ment so i took it to midas and had my muffler done and well its 6 years later and a 130,000 miles later i found a dime hole in the circle box after the pipes on the back end. Do you think midas will do the free replace ment.
p.s. sorry im still not sure on mufflers sorry about the lingo

To the best of my experience, as long as you have your paperwork (reciept to show YOU purchased the exhaust system) they will honor their guarantee. The only thing you need to make sure of is that the part that now needs replacing is a Midas part and not an MB one. Paul

I had my Volvo muffler done at Can Tire. They last 1-2 yrs each time.So I had it replaced 3-4x since 5rs ago.The muffler replacement and labour is free.
But they charge for pipes, hangers etc and associated labour. All in all,as Volvo dealers also guarantee their mufflers for life,I lost money using non-Volvo compared to if I had used Volvo original.
Now because MB doesnot give lifelong guarantee on their mufflers, only a miserly yr,I was told.that's a different story.

Dan, I have no clue. Once again, all I can tell you is if they replaced it the first time you had your exhaust done they will replace it for free this time. What was replaced should be clearly stated on your reciept. Paul

had a bad experience with Midas, although with another car. Midas offer a lifetime replacement for mufflers and yes, they will replace the muffler but will charge for labor and other pipes which will coincidentally needs immediate repair. In other words, Midas will hit you somewhere else, one way or the other. Yep, nothing is free!!
my MB muffler was replaced by my mechanic at CDN$500 parts (OEM) and labor.

I have had my muffler replaced free of charge 3 times I'm almost sad to say. For some reason, they keep snapping off right behind the muffer. They said it is due to rough idle but I don't know. Any thoughts?

For what it's worth, I had an '84 318i that I replaced the original muffler with a Midas. I had the car for 15 years and never paid Midas another dime for mufflers which had to be replaced about every three years or less. The main problem with theirs is that they're "cheap" and tend to develop rattles, but I never had a single arguement about replacing them. On a 318, though, everything is a single piece from the catalytic converter on back, so there were never any ancillary "pipe" charges.

I have never been too impressed with midas stuff. I usually suggest ansa or bosal brands for daily drivers. On high performance applications, I have always been happy with borla systems. I have also installed a complete stainless system on a 70 (I think) 280sl from "timevalve" for one of my customers. That system was a "tight" fit,but those old sl's never had alot of room under them in the first place.

I had Midas do the exhaust on my wife's Acura, and I recall that it saved me about $500 over the dealer. I never found out how long their stuff lasts, because the car was totalled by a hit and run driver within a year of getting the muffler done. Midas did let me "peek" at their work; one thing that I noticed was that they weld all their stuff together. Is this normal? I sorta cringed when I saw flames and sparks right underneath my undercoated floor pan. Another MB mechanic once told me *very emphatically* not to take my Mercedes to Midas.
