engine swap ?
Can a 2.6L 260E engine be directly swapped with a 3.0L 300E engine ?
Can the rest transmission etc stay the same in the 260E with the 3.0 in it ? I'm trying to get some better hp and seems like there aren't many upgrades one can do to the 260E. so i figured why not swap engines. does it sound like a good idea ? |
Probably, but until someone does the job you never know every little detail that can cause problems.
Why not just sell the 260 and buy a 300? That would probably be cheaper and, certainly, a lot less hassle. Duke |
good advice
if you have a 300 set up laying around, or at your call that is affordable awesome - i say do it. but given time and effort - why not upgrade higher.... im not so sure how deep you want to get, and how easy your suggested swap is to just do it... doesnt seem like too much of a headache if you have all the needed parts, or if you like making them like i do. Benz300,
260E uses light duty 722.4 transmission 300E uses heavier duty 722.3 transmission Could there be a transmission longevity issue? |
im not trying to start a little tiff here..but -
i have seen ford A4LD trannies bolted up to Frod Taurus SHO engines (yes, set up conventional) and they took the beating at the strip, even some with the SC Set up. the A4LD is know for breaking on its own just fine. A4LD rated for like 160hp SHO puts out like 210 im guessing here, no real facts, all guess I think a MB unit should hold up to this upgrade of 260/300. |

If two engines produce the same peak torque, but one makes more horsepower at higher revs, the same transmission will be okay for either as long as the higher revving engine does not exceed rated maximum transmission input speed. Duke |
right, i dont know what i was thinking- i forgot to mention or even think about whats important there, dont listen to me....its been a long week. Duke2.6 is on it.
