Can someone give me an idea of the fuel mileage the above capioned car should achieve, city alone is OK. A friend is new to one of these and he's gettine low teens around town. I know it's a big car, but low teens????? Thanks,

I formerly owned an -88 420 sEL with over 150K miles. As long as car had properly inflated tires, and not overly heavy-footed, it should easily do 17-18 mpg around town. I would get 22-23 mpg on interstate travel, long-haul.

Low teens are not acceptable in this vehicle. The 420 is a farily economical V-8, Mercedes-wise.

My 560 SEL gets 15/16mpg around town and 18/19 on the highway. Low teens in a 420 around town doesn't sound correct although if your friend has a lead foot at the stop light it is possible to burn a lot of fuel on those jackrabbit starts.
