Hey Limey B-

remember what I said about my car blowing up after I got the 250km badge- well it did! (kinda)

My regulator died too yesterday- ASR ABS and SRS lights came on and radio started turning on/off- car died 1/2 block from my house on the main road- v. frustrating and embarrasing!- my 2nd tow on this car, luckily my tech knew what it was straightaway and I was on the road again (moving this time) less than 2 hrs after I broke down. He said I had less than 1/4" left on the brushes but my alternator is good for a while yet...

It was definatley the regualtor for my car, when i removed it, not only did i have more grease from the leaky U gasket on the timing chain cover (now fixed) but the brushes on the Regulator were so far gone, 2 very small nubs... Thanks everyone.. I have a used regualtor in there that i got at a junk yard because the mercedes dealerships in the area do not open their parts or service departments on weekends,,, so monday ill go for a new one.. Also the bolts in the back of the regulator with the phillips head SUCK!! I replaced those bolts with an alan wrench head same size and length with a washer. MUCH easier to get on and off.. just a TIP

get it here

since you have the used regulator in now, it should last you until you ordered another one from fastlane. I don't know if you ordered one from here, but remember it helps support this great forum. You'll be surprised how quickly it will be shipped!!

By the way I have nothing to do with fastlane or anything. Just a big supporter of mercedeshop!!

limeyb,

Hey, somebody put your steering wheel on the wrong side:D

Glad you got it going again.

Happy motoring,

I see two different types of Voltage regulators for sale a Bosch and a Germany,, Obviously the Bosch is much more expensive, but is it really that much better??

limeyb 02-29-2004 01:28 PM

Just taken mine out (VR) and cleaned it as best I could.
I will get a new one. Mine is a Bosch from Spain!!
Can you put the VR in upside down??? Im not saying I have, but theres a little doubt in the back of my mind

Evan 02-29-2004 04:33 PM

just make sure the brushes on the VR are pointed towards the center of the alternator..

limeyb 02-29-2004 04:38 PM

Thank you, I guess I was right but I am not taking any chances.

Yes, the non Bosch VR is a good item. I put one in my 300E a long time ago and has worked great. There's no need to buy the Bosch one.

Hope this helps,

I don't want to short anyone. I'll trade with whoever donates the most money to the Cap'n Carageous SL Fund. I will still pay shipping though. That's just the way I am!!;)
