300E Rear Fog Lights

My 1991 300E claims to have rear fog lights, however when i pull the knob out 2 notches the nob lights up orange and there is no difference to the brightness of the tail lights... anyone have any ideas?

Evan,

Only the drivers side tailight will have a fog light in it. It should be a separate light which is bright red similar to your brake lights. If you don't see a bright light on the drivers side then pull the tailight assembly off from inside the trunk and check the bulbs.

All the bulbs are fine in my tail lights, not only has the Bulb Warning light not come on , but i have visually inspected the bulbs... it just appears that there is no connection for the foglights,,,

Evan, the fog light lamp in the left tail light assembly is the lamp closest to the trunk lid. It is significantly brighter than the brake lamps and lights the red trapezoid-shaped section of the tail light assembly to the right of the brake light. As placo1 mentioned the right tail light assembly lacks the fog light lamp by design. Check that a lamp is installed in the left tail light assembly. Your Owner's Manual should specify the correct lamp for the fog light. The fact that the headlight switch glows orange indicates that your car is wired for the left rear fog light.

...and if you compare the left and right taillight housings, you'll notice the absence of the same bulb socket on the right housing...
