chain tensioner is special tool needed?

reading an article on start up noise and it sounds as though my chain tensioner needs to be replaced 400e, 180,000 miles she runs great starts fine no problems at all. but lately first thing in the morning she rattles till oil presure build up around 4-7 seconds then quiets right down. I have orderd the tensioner and downloaded instructions on how to replace seems pretty simple. but the direction say to use a tool p/n 111-589-03-15-00 to fix exhaust cam from jumping when tenion is relieved, do I need this tool or can something else be used in its place. and what hidden problems might I run into or other parts I might as well replace while Im there. I know this is long
thanks
Mark
