Not starting

Well I was trying to star my car and it wouldn't start today. I put the key in and turn the key.....all the lights work and the battery is brand new. When I turn the key there is no clicking at all. I heard it could be the ignition coil, alternator or starter. I would jus like to know how I could figure out which one cause I need to save some $$$ and do it myself. Thanks in advance.

Chris

It is probably the starter solenoid. It is the large piece on the starter incase you don't already know. I have heard people say that hitting the solenoid with something can work. Maybe try hitting a bar with a hammer into it? Anyways, do a search on starter solenoid and you will read of many different fixes. Yes, it is your starter, but not the whole starter I don't think. You can JUST buy the solenoid or you could remove the starter and take it to a local auto electric shop and have them either
A. rebuild the whole starter which is cheaper than one might think
B. just replace the solenoid, which you could do yourself from what I've been reading.
Let us know how it turns out so other with the problem acn see it when they search or whatever.

Thanks
David

I'm taking in for sevice today and I 'm gonna get a new starter. Could anything else be wrong w/ it? Like I said I turn the key and nothing happens. It doesn't crank or anything. Hopefully a new starter will solve the problem...or will it? Please give opinions.

Thanks, Chris

On the other hand, it could be just your ignition switch.
A half decent mechanic should be able to figure this out easy.
