123 Chassis Erratic Wipers

Does anyone know what would cause the windshield wipers on my '82 240D to come to rest in different positions on the windshield when switched off? During regular operation on speed I or speed II they sweep the surface as they should, but when I turn them off there's no telling where the blades will come to rest.

I've also noticed this when using the intermittent setting. Any ideas what is causing this?

Wipers

I've had this problem before on a 123 chassis. I ended up taking a motor from another 123 and installed it. Problem solved!!
I think what causes this problem is that the commutator in the motor develops bad spots and get stuck in different positions.

Hope this helps
