Left head light is not working properly...

I have a question... My left headlight only comes on when the brights are on. And when the car is off, the right headlight only comes on when the brights are on. So when I'm driving, in order to both headlights on I have to blind people. Does any one know what the problem is here? Could it be a relay problem or something else? For those who can help, I thank you.

Sean:

Either you have a bad fuse for the low beams, or you have a bad bulb.

Check the fuses first, since a new bulb it a bit more expensive than a fuse. If the fuse is good, get a new bulb and replace the old one.

I believe there is a cover on the rear of the headlamp assembly that pulls up to release. The bulb is held in place by a lock ring. Bulb plug into the harness, there is (or used to be) and clip you have to pry up to release the bulb.

7004 Halogen.

Hey, thanks for your help. I determined the problem later yesterday morning. I saw that a fuse went out, but I was wondering why it went out. It turned out to be curroded wires at the bottom of the plug assembly at the rear of the headlight assembly. They seemed to be touching eachother. So I replaced the wires to the non curroded parts and sauldered (sp) a new female plug assembly together. After that, I replaced the fuse and everything now seems to be working fine. Thanks for your input PsFred. Not a lot of people respond to these threads do to lack of intrest in helping out. Thanks a bunch!

Rolex:

Are you running high wattage bulbs? If so, you will burn out the sockets pretty fast, they aren't designed for that much current. Neither are the wires.

There are some aftermarket kits with better sockets and wires, you might want to check them out.

The factory sockets on my 300D aren't in all that good a shape, either -- I had a bad contact on the left headlight that I had to clean up after.

Alright, I'll look into that. It seems logical, I need to take care if this to so I don't have to keep replacing wires and fuses and things. Do you know where I could get the kit at? Thanks for your help!
