Replace one caliper?

I have one rear caliper piston that is stuck. Seems to have been that way since I bought the car (3 years ago) and when I went in to change back pads, I saw a metal backing plate with no pad material on it. Tried to pry back the piston, but it's rusted and stuck. I figure if I do get it to move, it will only leak because of all of the corrosion that is on it.

Do I need to replace both rear calipers or can I do just one? I was thinking of replacing just the one with a rebuilt ATE if possible. I'll be putting in new pads and new rotors when I do the job.

I've heard that you always do the same work to both sides when you're doing brake and suspension work. I know this obviously applies to pads and rotors, but does MB require both new calipers if they're the same brand?

Thanks!
Neal

It is best to replace both instead of one, it is a rear and it might not make as much differance as a front would , in the other hand why take a chance when it comes to safety items such as brakes?:D

Try www.********.com for rebuilt units.

You may be able to rebuild the caliper yourself it you want to try, but otherwise you only need to replace the one, not both.

I agree with Peter about replacing only the frozen caliper, but I certainly would inspect the other 3 calipers to assure that they're functioning properly.
