Washer or no washer on a new drain plug (screw) for my 300E. Any suggestions
PS: really I know its a stupid question! Cardude |
Not a stupid question, use a new copper one, often supplied with a new filter. Alternatively, you could try the top end vacuum method, that saves the need to remove it in the first place.

It comes with the filter if you buy it from MB. I always put it on - just because I have it.

Your MB dealer should have provided a fresh washer under the plastic cover of the filter whenever you bought one -- it's not wise (though you can get away with it once) to use an old one. Use it, along with the correct torque (always use a torque wrench, too -- I can't tell you how many sad stories I've read (on other lists) of folks who overtorqued their drain bolts and are sorry for it).

I've used the same copper washer at least a dozen times in the past with no leakage.
It's a good idea to use a copper washer, and it's no big deal to change it every time since you get one with the filter. Good luck, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 523K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |
Thanks Guys
Copper it is! Consider it done. Cardude |
