How do I replace the worn out buttons on the push button climate control - E320

I've just done a comprehensive search of the archives :) - looking for the answer. Crazy as it seems, the interior of my '95 E320 is perfect, except for a few of the buttons on the climate control unit.

Can I replace the worn (image is worn off) buttons - which are available for a couple bucks each - with new buttons? Do they just pop off? Or would I have to pull the entire unit out?

And advice - I'd greatly appreciate. Best regards, 71Rcode

anyone? do the buttons just pop off? I don't want to destroy anything and be in the doghouse with my wife! Thanks much.

Remove the wood trim piece (there are two upside-down screws above the radio) and CAREFULLY (emphasis on carefully) pry off the buttons with a small screwdriver. New buttons are available individually.

On my 92, I was able to grab the old buttons with a good pair of needlenose pliers and pull firmly. They should come right off. No need to remove the wood console. You may leave marks on the buttons, as your pliers need to have sharp teeth. But you are throwing those buttons away anyway, so no problem.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm going to try it now!

Yes - used a pair of curved needle nose pliers - and pulled out (toward me) - they popped right off.

CHEAP as well. About $3 per button from FASTLANE.

Looks like brand new :)

Thanks guys - I really appreciate it.

Well, Ok (Doh!), Problem is I don't see any buttons listed for my car. (1990 300E). Is there a differebt place they might be listing them?

There is also a phone number listed on the main Fastlane page. Whenever you don't find something listed on the web, call and ask. Phil actually has multiple sources for parts and can get lots of stuff that isn't listed on the web interface.

I agree with Rick - Phil is the MAN! And whew....does he respond fast. Good luck tigger- and don't feel bad, I was on this site for a week before I figured out 'who/where' fastlane is
