95 C280 fuel pressure leakdown

The car is slow to start after sitting an hour or so. Fuel pressure running at idle is 57.0# with vacuum on the regulator and 64.0# without vacuum. After shutdown the fuel pressure at the rail drops immediately to 47.0# and then drops to 31.5# over thirty minutes. The Fuel Pressure Regulator does not appear to be leaking - to test it I disconnected the return line in the engine compartment (after shutdown, obviously) and put the end of the hose in a bottle for one hour. Not more than a drop or two leaked. The vacuum side of the regulator seems tight. I can't find a Fuel Pump Check Valve (single pump system). ARJAY had the same problem some time back, but he never got an answer to the question - is there a check valve and where is it? Any ideas?
