Put my rear drivers window down and it will not come up. When putting it down, I heard a popping noise, almost as if it came off the track, but kept on putting the window down.
When I try to put the window up, I do hear the window motor going, but nothing is coming up. What should I do? I tried to lift the window, but there is only a 1/4" of window showing and I cannot grab it. ------------------ '89 420 SEL '90 300 SEL '84 300 SD (sold it) |

Sounds like the window regulator broke. At least the plastic part of it that glides on the rail. Maybe partsshop has that plastic part, if not you'll have to buy the whole regulator. This happened to me twice and one of the two times a body shop was able to get that plastic part and repair the existing regulator.

For now, just to get the window up until you can get the car in, you can take the door panel off and guide the arm that pushes the window up into the right place then roll it up.

THanks Guys.
How much is a regulator and / or the plastic part and how much do you think the dealer would charge to get it done?? |

The sliding jaw is around 7 bucks.Normally the regulator has to be removed to replace it. Flat rate time is 1.5 to 2.0 hours.

If I can get the door panel off, is this a difficult job? WOuld you recommend an amateur giving it a try?
I am assumming it would be tough considering it would take a Tech 2 hours?? Do you think that a dealer would stock the sliding jaw? ------------------ '89 420 SEL '90 300 SEL '84 300 SD (sold it) |

Is there a special tool to get the rear door off on a 126?

The sliding jaw can be purchased at ************************. The part is $4.21. I just ordered 2. The door panel is an easy take off but I am not sure about the regulator. I have the very same problem you have. For the time being I disconnected the hot wire to the window motor to prevent someone inadvertedly letting it down. It has happened twice! You can push the glass up and it will stay put. Good luck.

Door panel & window regulator removal are pretty easy(no special tools required). After removing the regulator you will have to grind the end off the sliding jaw to remove it and the new jaw will have to have the end peened over. You will understand this better when you have the regulator out and the new jaw for comparison.
