Suspensions and Wheels.....

Currently, I have a 1986 300 SDL. I have a problem with my front passenger side studs. One stud is broken andall the other studs are bent. What is the best procedure to get them out? It seems Mercedes Benz didn't see that this could be a problem. If you have a flat out on the open road, your in big trouble. Also it seems like i can feel every bump in the road. Is the shocks and suspension system gone? There is some wear on the outside of the tires. What would this normally cost at a good MB shop for all this?

My opinion is.....

All I know is that I wouldn't be riding in that car until a MB shop corrects the problem(s), no matter what the cost! What value is your life? Get the whole front end checked while you are at it! Good Luck.

You could try going to the junkyard and getting a replacement hub and rotor.

Purchace a 12mm Stud extractor w 3/8 drive from NAPA for $19. Get a cheater bar and take it off. Sears sells a kit with one also - its made of pot metal and will not take the pressure.

just take it to a machine shop. Ive done this 3 times(i never learn haha) on my 1997 E320 due to some wrong lug bolts and it was only 30 bux to have my hub fixed.

Interesting! How did they all get bent?

I can see someone breaking a lug if it has been on for a long time and a gorilla tries to take it off with a breaker bar and a piece of pipe. But how did they get bent? Do you have a picture?

I agree the others. However you decide to fix this problem of lugs, DO IT NOW. If the outside tire wear is on all tires, this clearly indicates worn shocks (especially if the wear is in the form of "cupping"). Bilstiens are the OEM replacement. I would do this job myself, as it's not difficult and a dealer will charge you an arm & a leg.

Generally speaking I do not think much of Pep Boys mechanics. However recently I bought two Bilstein shocks on the internet for my 81 300SD and Pep Boys installed them for $100. Thought it was a pretty good deal since I really did not want to do it myself. They have a policy that they will install parts that you bring in from other sources.

FYI

Typically this is only a problem with non-OE wheels. Non mercedes wheels, especially the ones that are thick between the lug seat and hub, tend to corrode seizing the bolt. Once seized, applying a lot of torque will bend the lug bolts. At our shop we have a jig that will position a 1/2" drill bit centered over the lug allowing it to be drilled out. If you want to save the wheel then I'd suggest finding a shop with that tool.
