I've noticed in a few places referencing both hard and soft tops making it appear the 450SL came with both.

My 77 450SL has only a soft top. Was there supposed to be a hard top as well or am I reading the info wrong? It doesnt matter much considering my price and the fact that I live in CA but I'd just like to find out all I can.

I'm not sure if the hard top was optional or not for your year/model and location, but everyone I've ever known who had an W107 SL has both a hard and soft top. I know for sure that both tops were standard for all 560SLs in Canada. Maybe a previous owner found it uselss in California and sold it out of state, or it got damaged while being stored. Car looks great with either top, but the soft top is the heart and soul of an SL.
