My 1987 190e 16v is haunted by electrical gremlins. It keeps blowing fuses, particularly the one that shuts off battery when engine is off (radio will keep playing, wipers work) and the one that governs the alarm (open a door with engine running, the alarm goes off) and the seat controls. I've had a couple mechanics try to sell me new seat motor or switches but its an electrical problem. Anyone have a solution? A guess?

Possibly something in the ignition switch. Do a search on this subject. I'm pretty sure you will find some good answers.

There is a plug-in diode in the bottom of fuse box that keeps the switched circuit(key-on) from receiving power from the battery power-on bus for the electric seats. If the diode shorts out this will happen.

Thanks for the information. I'll replace it and see if that helps. Would that cause other fuses to blow too? And today my moonroof went kaput. Haven't had much trouble with this car but just hit 82,000 miles. What do you do for your car to enhance performance and keep it running well? Also, what tires do you recommend?
I've had this 87 16v for a couple years and still enjoy driving it.
Thanks

Wheels & tires are a personal item. As far as performance goes, the exhaust system is restrictive & the engine runs too lean. Valve clearance adjustment is important.
