Removing Sunroof Cover

I have a '96 C280 that has some of the fabric on the ceiling coming off of the sunroof shield. I was wondering how I remove the sliding cover so i can do a better job of putting some adhesive on it and fixing the fabric coming off. I can't figure it out for the life of me... It would be much easier to fix if i could take it off rather than attempting the whole thing upside down.

thanks

Sunroof lining

Hi Babtahi,

The inner lining is held to the moving part of the sunroof by 2 "pop" type fasteners at the forward edge of the sunroof (nearest the windscreen). You can release them using a sort of hooked tool inserted in the gap with the suroof partly open. I had to do this with the roof fully closed because it had stuck in the closed position. You will still have to wrestle the inner panel out of the roof but at least you can see inside at this point. Is yours a metal or glass outer panel?. Mine is metal & its quite easy to undo 6 bolts & the outer panel just lifts out

On my W124, I can easily pull down gently on the sunroof cover at the front when the roof is open a couple of inches and two metal clips (attached to the panel) release from holes in the metal frame.

However, I'm not so sure on my W202 (a recent purchase) that the same fitting exists. I've tried using the same technique and I feel I'm going to distort if not break the panel. The clips just don't seem to want to release.

Peter, are you describing a W202, or are all the sunroofs the same (I guess they're all made by Webasto, although my W202 one has many more plastic parts than the earlier W124 one )

Let us know Babtahi if you're successful using Peter's technique and I'll pull a bit harder...

I used a good quality contact adhesive when the vinyl on my W124 door pockets came away and has reasonable results. I believe there is a Mercedes part no for their own adhesive (although my dealership knows nothing about it).

Cheers.
