I have a 1998 E430. But I'm not sure how one can tell if you have the "Self Leveling System"

TRY LOOKING UNDER YOU HOOD, TO SEE IF THERE
IS A HYDRAULIC (I THINK MY IS IN GERMAN)CONTAINER, RIGHT NEXT TO THE WASHER FLUID. I HOPE THAT'S WHAT YOU MEAN...GOOD LUCK =) Assoc. AIA JOHNSC16V |

Also try looking inside the wheel wells. If you see black spheres with hoses coming from it then you have a self leveling system. They look somewhat like the float used in the water tank of toilets to shut off the flow of water once it gets high enough. These are filled with nitrogen and feed the hydraulic struts. The system uses the nitrogen as one medium and hydraulic fluid as the other medium in the hydaulic strut. When it is working in tiptop shape, the ride is supposed to be smooth as silk.

Turbo,
I KNOW mine does not have auto-levelling. If I park my tail in the back seat (with front seat properly forward), it stays down. As I am not with you to perform this test, simply substitute twenty-one and two-thirds stone for me to replicate this test on your own. The writer of this message is not responsible for any back seat damage that may occur, nor do I know where one can find said stone. Greg PS -- Now we know why my E430 may be a bit slower 'n yours -- I am in it usually. ------------------ GParker '99 E430 |
