cracked oil pan

Hi guys,
Today morning i saw a puddle of oil under the 500SL(1991), and took it to a shop. they showed me a 3 inch hairline crack on the pan. its about a square foot in size (the pan). the dealer qouted me 200 in parts and 200 in labour. Is there anything else I should do when the pan is out. like tell them to check for something else that could have caused the crack? or to check some accessible parts once that pan is removed? I just changed my oil last week aswell, so do I tell them to save the old oil so they dont charge me for an oil change on top of everything else?
they told me its only an hour job.

I am thinking it isn't your oil pan but your transmission pan. Are you sure it is the oil pan? The foot square description makes me think of the trans as well as the parts and labor quote.

If it is the trans pan, have them do the trans filter and change the ATF (in the torque converter as well) if it hasn't been done recently.

either pan is an easy DIY job, parts are not that much for either pan from FastLane. I would put in new oil if it is indeed the oil pan...........

That's true actually, the engine oil pan and transmission pan are about the same size. i wonder if they are the same?
well what happened is today morning i saw a pool of engine oil on the floor and took it to a mechanic and he showed me this crack on the oil pan. everytime he would wipe the oil seeping from the oil pan new oil would immediately start seeping out again. it would stick to the outside of the pan and slowly drip. so what i did is i took the car home and put it on stands. drained out the oil and now waiting for the pan to arrive tommorrow. the problem is some of the bolts seem stripped so i might need help removing those. there is a dent in the oil pan aswell. I don't think the prev. owner was a good driver because he has scraped the bottom of the car in many areas. i wont be surprised if the muffler starts leaking soon and maybe even the tranny oil pan.
is it okay to let the car sit for a few days with no oil in it? will condensation form inside?

If they are allen head bolts and you rounded out the inside of them with your allen wrench as I have done on my MB's vice grips will usally get the stripped ones out .I don't know why they use such soft easy to strip allen bolts..........

If you can get vice grips on them then pull down while unscrewing. On many of the holes there is enough rim to put another longer allen bolt of the same diamiter an put a lock washer and nut on the top, I did this on a couple of stripped holes on one of my MB's oil pans can't remember which one.............
