I am on vacation this week in Atlanta. I came in yesterday from Raleigh NC. Last night I came to the hotel and was trying to back out of my space to get a closer space. The car would not go into reverse but the car will go into to all of the other gears just fine. The reverse gear had worked fine and hour earlier when I stopped to get gas and had to back up because I over shot the pump. The light on the gear shifter is not working either. Just last week I had to have the switch on the transmission replaced. The reverse lights had not worked since I had a new transmission put on last summer. I need help fast. And, I will need to know of a good shop to take my car to, which will not cost me AN ARM AND A LEG. I am on vacation and cannot enjoy myself knowing that my car is down. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP MY 1983 AND ME 240D !

Hopefully more knowledgable people will post here. It has been a while since I had my diesel too. I had the same thing happen to me. It did not cost me an arm an leg. From what I remember they did not even have to drop the tranny. I recall there being some kind of line/switch that leads to/from the tranny. The tech fixed it in a 1/2 hour. Again, I am no guru on this subject.

Except for the inconvenience, I would not jump to conclusions yet on the price. Could be less than 100 clams to get it done at best??

The 722.109 trans had an adjustable reverse band. It also had a servo piston that commonly broke or needed resealing. None of these problems should occur to a year old rebuild, but sh** happens.

Take it to Donnie or other competent shop if he is too busy. Take it too someone who can deal with incar repairs (many only exchange transmissions)
