All:
Please provide me your input on the following: I found a memo from "another" MB message site that listed a few cons withrespect to the 119 engine. 1:- "the B-2 piston is an issue on these cars." What does this mean ? What are symptoms of piston problems. 2:- Engine Rattle at startup... (I experience this with my 400E) The article states that two things can cause: a: defectove oil filter housing check valve. b: Canshaft oil tubes (possible bulletin concerning this issue) ..are these big deals ?? time and $$ Your expert opinions are appreciated ! |
I'm pretty sure the B2 piston is in the transmision. In earlier models it was a problem, but was easy to fix. Should have been cleared up by time the 400E came out.

The B2 piston is in the trans & if you have delayed or double engaugement in drive then it is the problem. The rattle on start-up is caused by timing chain tensioner bleeding down. Replace it if you are hearing any rattle on start-up.

Thanks for the info....No noticable transmission problem...
I will have the tensioner examined when I have my next service. Thanks |
