If i recall correctly, you have a 126 model 420 or 560--that helps to know. Looks like a thermo vacuum valve. Different colors open at different temps. that looks like a red one. Check with Phil at Fast Lane on pricing.

thermo vaccum valve

this is the number off my valve 000140 7180, mine is red in color. i hear that different colors allow it to open up sooner which translates to a cooler running engine, is this true, if so what color should I go to? thanks

That thermo-vacuum valve is an emission control device(charcoal purge system) that allows ported vacuum to pass above 50C.

Valve

What year and model is your car?

I have a 89 420 SEL, and my current one is blue. I just went to the dealer and bought one, and he gave me a black one, and assured me it was the right one for my car. I haven't installed it yet. Part number sold to me was 001 140 62 60

WOW, if its emission then you don't need it to run the car
etc does it affect cold idle?

Mine broke
I connected the 2 lines that went into it together & the valve is tvv is not
attached to anything..just 2 holes...

Should I have just plugged each one rather than connecting?

I don't understand how it works
but luckily the car runs though when temp reaches 50 as its a red tvv
the idle gets lumpy...

Also I have been having a hi idle at cold starts & was thinking perhaps this could be the cause as apparently my tvv is hooked into the warm up regulator & quad in front that has air inject balve & distrib vac

There is another tvv next to this broken one that has 2 redlines I can't trace
Its possible these are the emission ones?

Thanks

usually under the hood they have a diagram left of the radiator. unless it has come off .. u have two of those valves and they go on a certain way .. notice how one is bent/angled .. if you have a junk yard holding some mercedes i suggest u go check it out...

u can snag one from the yard if they dont break when you pull the vaccum line off .. just twist it clockwise and counter clockwise before pulling up on the line http://www.***************/search/product.aspx?sid=bpubspzwghntemuod1bpri55&makeid=800016@Mercedes&modelid=1194094@300SE&year=1988&cid =18@Electrical%20%26%20Vacuum&gid=4604@Thermo%20Vacuum%20Switch
