E320 Cluster Removal-Simple Question (Really!)

For all of you with a 124 who have removed your instrument cluster: Can I pull the cluster out enough to get at the seat belt relay without disconnection the speedo cable, and if not, how far can I pull it forward without damaging the cable?

That was the simple part.
My other question is related to the fact that there is no overhead dome light or buzzer or red seatbelt warning when the driver's door is opened. Can I override the seat belt relay so that I wire the driver's door switch to the power and function of the passenger side door? What are the negative affects of doing this?

Thanks.

Not sure where the seat belt relay is located back there as my only need to pull out my cluster was to get at burnt-out bulbs.

That said, You can get the cluster out a bit more if you unclip the speedo cable near the pedal assembly...that should give you enough slack to at least have the cluster our far enough to rest the front of it onto the steering column.

It's still a tight squeeze to get your hand back there, but if you have slender, dexterous fingers, you might be able to get at what you need without having to disconnect the speedo cable... ;)

It is NOT possible to R&R the seatbelt warning relay without removing the instrument cluster completely. It's on the righthand side, far against the firewall. It's hard to see and is attached to a bracket which is a bit of a PITA to remove. Make sure you don't drop the nuts behind the dash.

Thanks for the info. For right now, all I really want to do is see what it looks like in there, think about the new $60 relay later.
