Trans stuck in 2nd gear

Hi all. I have a 91 300ce in the shop that will not shift out of 2nd gear. I have checked to see if the roll split pin was sheared off on the govenor but it was fine. I think there may be a problem with the 2nd pump at the right rear of the tranny but I'm not sure what the 2nd pump does. Or could I have a problem inside the valve body? Please help if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks in advance

Be sure and make sure the kickdown switch under the gas pedal is not closed all of the time and that the bowden cable is free.

I had a 420 Sel in my shop that would only shift into 3rd at WOT it was a stuck KD switch under the gas pedal try that first, disconnect it .If it still does not work and if working and governor pressures are normal; in 2nd gear the B1 band (front) and the B2 band (rear) is on. In 3rd gear the K1 drum (front) and the B2 band is on. You have 2nd gear so we know the B2 band is working. The problem could be leaking rings or seals in the K1 drum or the valve body. Sometimes you can find a leak with a gauge installed, drive the car at 10 to 15 MPH and note the reading, accelerate to 30, 35 MPH if the reading is a lot less the drum is leaking. If you can not “see’ a leak I would try another valve body.

Thanks for the help

I finally fix the problem thanks to your support. Changed the valve body and it works great now.

Thanks
Melvin
