Climate Control problem

Does everything have to break at once??
Anyway...My climate control is acting weird. The most noticeable prooblem is that the off button (0) does not turn it off. I did a search and it sounds like there is a vacuum leak somewhere. Am I on the right track? And where is a good place to start looking? The car is a 1987 560SEL
thanks!

Does the compressor stay on when you mash the off button? If it does then you have more than a vacuum issue.

The AC compressor? I don't believe so, I'll double check that today. Each button pressed changes the sound of the airflow, so something is working. Also, while driving I can hear the flaps opening and closing more often than they should.

The compressor turns off in the "EC" and the off position. Any suggestions on where I should begin to look for the problem?

So the blower is staying on?

I think (no wiring diagram at hand) that the blower is electronically controlled by the blower controller. It responds to a 1-6v signal from the pushbutton controller. It is hooked to battery power though and can turn the blower on if faulty.
