97 E320 - Reverse Lights Problem
I have a 97 E320 and the reverse lights stay on when I turn on the car. Regardless of whether it is in <Park> , <Reverse>, or <Drive> the lights never go out. Right now my mechanic can't figure it out. He thought the problem was in the shifter but that wasn't the problem so now he thinks that it may be the switch light monitoring system. He won't try to fix it because the part costs $455 and if he's wrong he doesn't want to get stuck with the part.

Has anyone heard of this problem and what the potential fix is?
