in diesel engine? How do you check for its performance?

In your '87 it should last as long as the engine as long as the trap oxidizer has been removed. If the trap oxidizer has not been removed, get it to a Benz dealer soon and have it done. They will remove it and you will get a brand new entire exhaust system for free. The trap oxidizer is known for coming apart and destroying the turbo charger and many times takes the entire engine with it too.
