Shift SHOCK on my Tranny

Hello friends, my 300CE has the tranny that starts off in 2nd. Anyways, I have the bowden cable pretty much tightened up and hence, on 1/4 throttle, it'll lick down to 1ST during take off.

Recently, I began to experience shift SHOCK on the 1-2 gear change. No longer that lazy upshift. Again, this happens on the 1-to-2 gear change only. The transmission was overhauled only about 30,000 miles ago. I have not replaced the ATF or filter though.

Could my tranny be breaking apart again?

I would guess you could have a vacuum leak. A leak will result in hard shifting on an otherwise good tranny. I had this on my '95 E300D, it was a Y fitting with a crack in it.

I believe for your car, depending on the year, a second gear start is normal.

The bowden cable is supposed to be slightly loose in adjustment.

I would change the ATF and filter as soon as possible.

Your trans should be working normally after only 30k miles since a rebuilt.

Hi Chris, may I know the source of your vacuum leak so I may start tracing the fault? Thanks.
