Always have water on the Driver Side floorboard when I pull up the Rug. I just cant find the leak! I dont think its the Sunroof. Someone else must have had this problem, because I saw another 240D owner with the same problem. Someone mentioned plugged drain holes near windsheild, but I cant find them. Ruining one rug already. Please help.

Check your windshield gasket. It is probably old and cracking. My car had the same problem, I went to Autozone and bought some black silicon, and ran a bead along the bottom corners where the glass meets the gasket. I also put some between the gasket and the roof. You should be able to put your fingernail under the gasket and carefully lift it enough to squirt some silicon between the paint and the gasket. After that, no more wet carpets. To find the drain holes, open the hood and look in the areas that the hood springs are. Hope this helps.

You didn't say if this is in the front or rear. I have had more than one 123 sedan that needed a bilge pump in the rear floorboards. I puzzled over it for years and finally got the answer when I found mercedesshop.

There is a cavity at the rear corner of the engine compartment that the hood hinges fold into. Clean the cavity and clean out the drain with baling wire, sorry I'm a country boy, I'll bet a coat hanger will substitute for baling wire. I cleaned out these drains and have driven in driving rain since then without having to use the bilge pump.

Good luck,

I've had the same problem with my '83 300D and it was the windshield gasket. It was leaking along the passenger side windshield post. I confirmed this by removing the carpet and the kick panel and had someone move a hose around the windshield. When they got to where it was leaking it poured in. There was no question as to where the gasket was leaking. I used some silicone windshield sealer which flows easily and it has taken care of the problem. I treated my windshield 2 years ago.
