To Buy Or Not To Buy? That Is The Question
 

I have a chance to buy a really nice 1978 280ce coupe CHEAP. It has about 100000 miles on it. Transmission is out according to owner. I just replaced the tranny in my 94 E420 myself so I'm not afraid of doin so in the ce. I want a car to tow behind my motor home as well as a daily driver. I'm thinking of installing a driveshaft disconnect for that purpose. Or even swapping in a manual transmission. Who knows what I would need to do a tranny swap to 4 or 5 speed? I believe the coupe weighs about 3200lbs, am I right? What do you all think? Wouldn't that be a cool "towed"? Anyone ever installed a driveshat disconnect in a Benz?

I fully agree with you. it would make a very fine toad behing your motorhome. What kind do you have?? You will certainly need a driveshaft disconnect. (remco)
I would have thought the 280CE weight more than 3,200pds, but I am not sure.

I have an older Bounder. I have pulled several different cars with it. 68 Firebird conv. (wish I hadn't sold), that was cool. Jeep Cherokee, then a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand was a bit heavy I think, about 4500lbs. I know I would be better off with something in the 2500Lb range but travel with grown kids and need a little room as well. Maybe I ought to just convert my E420. Its probably no heavier than the coupe. The 123 are very reliable aren't they?

That is cool. I have a 68 Vette convertible that I would luv to drag along if it were just me and the wife. Unfortunately it would be really tight with two teens!!:D :rolleyes: Doesn't the Vette weigh in at about 3400lbs?
