My '84 190E 2.3 w/ 155,000 miles is getting lower than usual oil pressure. It has only been in the 70s this week (farenheight) and the guage barely is off the stick at red lights. On the highway, the guage only shows 2.5 bar rather than the usual 3 plus at speed.

I am due for an oil change. Tomorrow I'll put in a new filter cartridge and try some 30 or 40 weight for the rest of the summer.

Is there anything else I should check that is problematic for this car like a clogged pick up screen? bad o-ring on the pick up tube? oil pump?

I dont really want to rebuild this thing. The body is beat up, the rear diff is on the way out and the tranny is acting up.

Help!

change your oil first and see what happens.
as to your other problems, why don't you post them here and see the feedback you get.
there are a lot of good people here to help you sort them out. good luck :)

I changed the oil to 40 weight and there is good pressure. At idle, is another story - zilch to maybe a flicker and the needle moves a hair.

I opened up the bypass valve to check it out. No news.

Where is the oil pressure sender for the 84?? I dont see it on the oil filter housing (not a spin on oil filter) and I see no part listed for it. I see no reference to the 84 sender in the Service Manaul CD or the Haynes. Why?? Does the oil go by tube right up to the guage like my old TR-6? Also no, mention of the sender on the wiring schematic.

What gives?

This has happened to my '84 190E, 2.3 twice, once last winter and once this spring (not between consecutive oil changes). Oil pressure would be nil @ idle and no more than 2 bar @ speed. Each time it would happen I would change the oil and the problem would go away. The used oil looked like used oil, and it has not happened at all during the summer.

As to the oil sending unit I believe it is on the drivers side in the front, sort of below the power steering pump, I think. I'll check and repost if this is wrong
