126 Series/560 SEC Seat Belt Presenter

Hi all,

I am brand new to this forum having just purchased a 1990 560 SEC after 11 happy years with a 450 SEL. I am UK based, and wondered if anyone could help me out.

I have a Seat Belt Presenter problem with the Drivers Side on the SEC. It worked for about a week and then stopped. I have a little clue as to what to check as I did scan various forums first, but I am still stuck.

The following parts are definitely working, and I have already tried the following.

1. The relay. I have swapped with the passenger side it is fine.

2. Door Contacts, all fine, but renewed anyway.

3. Power.. Power definitely getting to the relay just before the motor. Dome Light, curteousy light, etc., working.

4. Gears on Presenter Motor.. In very good condition. If I remove the relay, I can pull the arm out manually but as soon as the relay is re-installed, the arm simply retracts.

5. Strangely with the relay plugged in, the motor/gears themselves prevent me from moving the arm at all (with quite some force), which makes me think that some safety switch or similair is not allowing the arm to extend.

6. I have traced back the earth switch from the seat belt buckle, and as far as I can tell this is working. I even ran wires to the passenger side buckle earth switch and this made no difference.

7. I have removed the appropriate fuse to reset the system, no good, and even totally disconnected the battery. No good either.

8. Thinking back the only thing I changed between the extender working and then not working was altering the seat settings a little, but I did also move the orthapeadic settings on the seat quite a lot.. The controls for this are attached to the buckle lock.

I have not tried anything else and put it all back together in disgust!!!.. The only other thing I noticed was what looked like a tension spring adjust with a bolt attached to the motor, but I did not touch this.

I apolgise if this post is long-winded, but I wanted to save readers posting suggestions that I had already tried and wasting their time..

Thank You In Advance
:)
Shane
