Aux Air valve position

I have recently taken out my air valve but not entirely sure which direction it goes in.
At the moment, the arrow on the body is pointing towards the air flow sensor, to assist cold start. I think this is correct.
Manual only says remember how it was when removed, but what if the former owner put it back incorrectly?
Please advise.

If this is the rotary idle air valve, the arrow points in the direction of airflow - which is FROM the airflow meter TO the intake ports. That would mean opposite the direction you seem to be indicating. You wouldn't think it would make any difference, but our car would not run properly when it was installed backwards, fine when in the correct way.
