My 300D has the air filter housing located in the front right corner of the engine compartment. It is a cylindrical cannister in shape. Does anyone have a part # for this particular air filter? PartsShop shows only the filter that fits the more typical air filter housing that sits above the intake manifold.

I had to get one for my California version 300D. You should be able to special order one from the parts shop. I think you can list the details without the part number. Is n't the part number on top of the lid where it says "filter einsatz "? It does cost about 50% more than the 49 state version.

I think the p/n is 617-094-01-04. I have both '85 300D and '85 300SD. My sister has a 85 300D. They are all Calif cars. We buy 10 filters at a time to get discount and save on shipping.

Thank you for the info'. The price for the CA model air filter may be higher, but the relocation of the dull air box does provide a nice clear view of the otherwise attractive turbo unit and engine -an aesthetic benefit apparently not enjoyed by the 49 State models.

I wonder if K&N make a reuseable hi-flow filter for this model. That might be cheaper in the long run.

As far as I know, K&N does not make the air filter. It is possibly because there is not enough business to open a product line. Only Californians with the 85 model are buying it. If K&N has it, I still prefer the OEM air filters.

The air filter housing of the traditional model comes loose easily due to break down of the mounting screws. You do not have this problem with the 85 Calif model.

Let me know if you have problems finding the filter.
