fuel pump mystery

I just replaced the dash on my 86 Euro 500 SE but don't think? that that caused the problem (Iv'e learned over the years to belive in cowinidense when working on cars) any way job done and it won't start.

I have no power to either fuel pump. I pulled the relay jumped 30 and 87 still will not start still no power at the pumps. I bared the hot wires in the trunk that feed the pump and jumped them to postive pole on battery and it started right up.I then pulled the false firewall and bracket that holds the pump relay and all looks fine there .Any ideas?...........

If I remember correctly, the relay is near the firewall.
Could it be the wires got disturbed/broken when replacing the dashboard?

I would try to chase the wires with one of the warble things.

Do the fuel pumps run all the time or do they run intermittantly if so what controls the shut off...........

In an '87 420 they run all the time and excess fuel is returned to the tank.
The relay/system incorporates info from the crank, I believe, so if the motor is not spinning, then they will stop. You can hear it when you turn the key to the position II (just before the start). They will run for a second or two and then stop, as the engine is not turning.
My guess would also be a disturbed wire and not a coincidence.
Good luck
