88 190 instrument cluster removal
My odometer has stopped working in my 88 190 and I wanted to pull it out to see if the cable had somehow become disconnected or if it needs a new gear inside replaced. Unfortunately the archives for some reason don't have any posts listed for pulling the cluster out and I don't see any screws holding it in like most other cars do. Can someone post the removal trick for this car? Thanks in advance.

Of course, you're kidding . . plug this into the search feature here:
190E cluster removal If your speedometer works, then it's not the cable, it's likely a stripped gear in the odometer assembly. While some claim it can be fixed, there are so many cheap instrument clusters for sale on Ebay, it may not be worth the repair. If you do buy a used cluster, try to get one that the same year as yours, since the warning lights on the cluster shell varied by different years and equipment changes. The '84 clusters used a "live" oil pressure feed instead of an electrical connection. |
