Recommended Brake Pads for '86 300SDL?
Well, this'll be my first brake job on my new (to me) 1986 300SDL. Time to replace the pads all around. What is/are the recommended brake pads to use on this vehicle? I once used Bendix on my 85 300D and my mechanic wanted to shoot me. :p Well, he's since moved away but I've found another mechanic and wanted some info before I talk to him. TIA.

If you want good stopping power and quiet operation, you cannot go wrong with using a good OEM quality pad provided you don't mind cleaning your wheels often. These include pads made by Textar, Pagid, Jurid, or ATE. Available at a good price with fast delivery by clicking fastlane at the top of the page.
Personally, I really like Textar pads and I use them exclusively on my car. If you do a search you will find many more opinions about pads and find some info about some aftermarket pads that people have been satisifed with that provide less dust on the wheels. I don't mind cleaning my wheels regularly, so dust is not an issue for me and thus I am very satisfied with the overall performance of Textar pads.

Thanx, Ali. Textar is one I've heard of and my guy just called and recommended those, too. I'll try them out. Thanks again.

Just put a set of Textar pads on all four corners of my SDL. There great, quit, with a lot off stoping power. I've only put 100 miles on them so far but not much dust.
TonySz while your under there check your rubber brake lines, I just replaced all 4 of mine, and the rears were badly cracked. For about $10 a piece there cheap insurance.

I don't personally have experience with these pads (yet), but I have heard nothing but great things on this forum about PBR Deluxe pads. I'm going to use these for my upcoming brake job.

Hatterasguy, I'm going to let my mechanic do them. I've never done brakes with ABS and I've heard they can be screwed up if you're not carefull. I'd rather read up on them before I attempt them and I need to get the brakes done ASAP. My guy is going to inspect the lines and give the car a general going-over. We'll see how it goes.

TonySz I just took the old pads out and put the new ones in. It really wasn't much different than my non ABS Camry. After I did the job the ABS light came on twice after I drove the car for a few miles. My CD said I either got crap on the sensor or left to much play in the wheel bearings. But after those two times the light never came on again. So when I change the caliper bolts in a week or so I'll check everthing out. But my gues is some junk got on the sensor and than worked it's way off.
