560SL coughs with acceleration
Two Symptoms:
1 - Let car sit and idle - after 10 minutes - it stalls. After restarting, acceleration will not exceed 2K RPM, then after 5 minutes driving - all appears OK. 2 - Attempt a "Jack Rabbit start" from the traffic light. Things are smooth up to 6K RPM, gear changes, then car coughs and hesitates. Letting off the gas - runs smooth again, just can not quickly accelerate - even from moving. Thanks for the help Wife suggests this occured last fall also. 171K mile.:( |
I would look at the fuel filter & possibly a whole lot of crud in the tank. ;)

Thanks - more how too
Thanks for the suggestion.
I have viewed other threads describing the caughing. How do you suggest I get the "Gunk" out of the gas tank? The current tank (half way gone) has a large bottle of Techron. The fuel filter was changed last year - but I suspect I should change it again. Summary - How should tank be cleaned and rest of system? Thanks  |
Almost sounds as though your CIS U computer is kirking out on you.. Had a VERY similar problem in a 560SEL of mine, played with injectors, fuel pumps, accumulators, regualtors etc.. Finally swapped the CIS E computer and it fixed EVERYTHING. Do you know anyone with a 560 that you could swap a the bugger out with??
Sometime you can get a cheap used one on ebay, new they are over 700 :-/ Good Luck! Jonathan |
more info please
how does a CSI u differ from a CIS E
When I go to Fast Lane or eBAY for that matter - what do I ask for - no hits on CIS. Is this the Feul Distributor? |
Sorry, that was CIS E :-/ You may have to try some breakers such as potamic or silver star.. If you can't find one there, I bought a new one through buymbparts, the gave a Great price (well relatively at least..!)
Good Luck! Jonathan |

The Professional Mechanic is in my future
I'm not feeling comfortable with Fuel Systems.
This weekend I will change the fuel filter - then if not satisfied - call the mechanic. Justr found a south jersey team I really like. :-( that's sad when your mechanic recognizes your voice on the phone. |
