Just bought a 1999, SL500 with 25,000 miles.

Infared key doesn't seem to want to open the windows, even after reset. There seems to be a place on the door handle for the infared receiver, but I'd swear it appears to be "blacked out".

Also, the door sensors don't light up. Are they supposed to?

On a 99, the IR sensor is just a small black square. You have to "aim" the key at the sensor rather directly to make the convenience feature work.
On this model, there is no red or green lights like the older models. Instead it flashes the turn signal lights to confirm locking and unlocking. Even the old ones didn't flash for convenience opening.
