126 valve cover removal ! straightforward??
I want to inspect my timing chain rails, tommorrow. I am an intermediate DIYer , my question is the passenger side valve cover removal straight forward, or do I have a few things to contend with? My car was given a clean bill of health recently, but I have no record of the rails being changed, the 1-2 second rattle isn't there anymore (new tensioner.) Plus just the "fun' of seeing part of the engine of the car. something to do on Saturday afternoon.
Anything else I need to know.

Easy job. Hope you have new gaskets! Do not over tighten valve cover bolts.

If you dont have fuel line wrenches, dont do it. I was going to on my 380 till I noticed that my driverside had fuel lines obstructing it.

Flare tool wrenches are available at SEARS.

On the V-8's the passenger side valve cover is a two minute operation. No fuel cooler lines to mess with, nothing in the way. Just pull the air cleaner and remove the 4 bolts that retain the cover. Be sure you don't lose the little copper washers that are on the bolts, they are small and thin and easy to miss.
The driver's side is a little more complicated due to the fuel cooler lines, whcih have to be disconnected from the fuel distributer. You will need the mentioned flare wrenches as well as an appropriate sized box wrench to act as a backing wrench so as not to screw up the lines/fittings. I would be sure to have a new set of valve cover seals on hand as your existing seals are probably baked pretty hard. I would also suggest pulling both covers. It is usually one of the driver's side rails that breaks first.
